Phasing work around a clinic that stays open

Night and weekend sequencing, access routes, and what has to be agreed with the owner before day one.
A schedule for an occupied building is not a shorter version of a normal schedule — it is organized around someone else’s hours first, and the work second. Get the order wrong and the containment holds but the patients don’t.
01
Map the hours first
Before a single date goes on a schedule, we get the facility’s actual operating hours — including the hours no one mentions, like early deliveries or an after-hours cleaning crew — because a plan built around the hours on the door is a plan built around the wrong hours.
02
Split the scope into zones, not days
A schedule that says “Monday through Friday” tells an owner nothing about which door not to use. One that says “Suite 140, then Suite 150” tells them exactly what changes and when.
03
Put the loud work at night
Demolition, cutting and anything that carries through a shared wall gets scheduled for after hours. What is left for the day is the quiet work — finishes, punch-list items, anything a patient in the next room will not hear.
04
Agree the access route before day one
Which door the crew uses, where materials stage, and which hallway stays clear get written down and signed off before the first truck arrives — not worked out in the parking lot on day one.
05
Build in a buffer the client can see
Every phased schedule carries slack, and the client sees where it is instead of finding out about it the day something runs long. A delay that was already on the schedule is a non-event; one that wasn’t is a phone call nobody wants to make.
None of this is unique to healthcare. It is the same sequencing logic behind any occupied renovation — a dental office, a retail space that stays open, an office suite mid-lease — the hours change, the method doesn’t.
